Hacksaw Ridge

Hacksaw Ridge is another beautiful war film by Mel Gibson which chronicles the bravery and heroism of Dessmond Doss, who refused to carry weapon during the war but end up saving a lot more people.

The film stars Andrew Garfield, who after burning bridges with Spiderman, has taken on more challenging and mature roles such as this movie and Silence by Martin Scorsese.

The movie takes us on the events after the attack on Pearl Harbor, Doss enlists in the army as a combat medic but he refuses to hold any firearms, owing to the fact that in their childhood he nearly kills a brother and has been a devout Adventist since then. His service to the country takes him to Okinawa where he experiences the war first hand. The first encounter was a mess leaving mass destruction on the Japanese and Allied side, but in the morning the Japanese launched a massive counter attack, laying massive death on the allies. Doss hears the mourns of the dying soldiers left in the battlefield and at every dose of his strength, carries them out of the battlefield saving about 75 soldiers and earning respect and medal of honor in the process.

It's a compelling watch I tell you. Watch it and be uplifted.

5/5.
