Queen's Gambit (Netflix)

 

I don't know if you missed this beauty in Netflix but if you did, well...

The story is about Elizabeth Harmon, Beth for short, an orphan-prodigy. Abandoned by the father and losing her biological mother in a car accident, Beth was left at the care of an orphanage. There she got addicted to an anti-depressant drug which she struggled to flush out her system for sometime. There she also meets Mr. Shaibel, the maintenance guy of the orphanage who played chess at the basement. When Beth chances Mr. Shaibel playing by hiself, she helped herself and learned the game even if he was adamant on teaching her.

Soon she learns to have his trust and they secretly played the game together, her improving as the games go on until she beats him repeatedly. This encourages Mr. Shaibel to invite a local coach to play against Beth. After beating this guy out several times as the episode implies, he invites her to play a simultaneous game against high school varsity players, which she also beats.

Dubbed as probably the best mini-series Netflix has ever produced this one is a must not miss... I wonder how you could have missed this if you haven't seen it yet. Time to binge watch again!
